Summary

Performs field duties and manual labor associated with spill response, environmental, industrial and asbestos projects. Work may include confined space entry, use of various small hand tools, cleaning interiors of boilers, storage tanks, industrial processing tanks, kilns or ovens to remove emulsion and incrustations by performing the following duties.

Job Description

Operate Commercial Vehicles, Vacuum Trucks, Water Blasters or Heavy Equipment associated with spill response, environmental, industrial and asbestos projects.

Able to operate a high pressure water blaster (up to 40,000psi), work in extreme cold weather situations, extreme high temperature situations, long hours, fluctuating work schedule (some slow periods resulting in a lack of hours at times), travel away from home for possibly days/weeks at a time, rotating on-call (nights or weekends), hazardous material handling, working at heights on structures and out of man lifts, must at times wear an encapsulated suit with respirator.  

Most work is performed outdoors. Pipeline and refinery experience is a plus.  

Travel and training costs are covered by Allied.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Disconnects and drains tank, connects hose to water or steam lines and sprays walls, roof and bottom of tank to flush residue such as oil, acid, grease and sludge through tank openings.

Sweeps up waste and debris and shovels into drums and storage containers. Removes chemical residue and other liquids from tank bottoms, pits, sumps, pits, industrial fans, ovens etc... with squeegees or pump and suction hoses.

Operates pressure washers, water blasting equipment and small hand tools.

Tests gas/chemical content of tanks.

Loads and unloads project materials and equipment.  Responds to emergency spill call-outs.

Performs confined space entry and monitoring as necessary.

Drives non-CDL Company vehicles as necessary.

Follows all company safety procedures and guidelines.

Maintains company issued personal protective equipment (PPE).

May be assigned to asbestos abatement or miscellaneous projects (with appropriate training).

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); related experience and/or training is preferred but not necessary.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, this individual may need basic skills using a tablet, cellular phone or personal computer.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

The following are preferred but nor required - Commercial Driver's License (A or B) with endorsements to drive vehicles, operate heavy equipment, as well as proficient use of a water blaster, and 40 hour HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) certificate.

Position is Full-time

Wages (dependent upon experience) - $15.00-18.00/hour
